Tiegemberg

Cycling enthusiasts have surely heard of the ‘Vossenhol’ (Fox Hole), as the climb of the Tiegemberg is also known. It often features in the major Flemish cycling races such as the Tour of Flanders, Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne or Dwars door Vlaanderen. Does this mean that you have to stomp on your pedals? Well possibly yes, because at 82 metres, Tiegemberg is one of the highest points between the Lys and the Scheldt rivers. Not only is cycling history written on the Tiegemberg, now and then it is the place for a miracle. At least according to the legend: St Arnold performed a few miracles and wondrous healings at the little spring that emerges here. The wealthy merchant Vital Moreels created St Arnold’s Park in the 19th century, with - for the connoisseurs - exquisite examples of cement rusticity.
