Thermae Palace

The most iconic building in Ostend has been a feature on the coastline since 28 June 1933. It was then that King Albert I and Queen Elisabeth cut the ribbon of this gem of Art Deco style, worthy of a ‘queen of the seaside resorts’. There was a ‘Grand Hôtel’; a swimming pool filled daily with fresh seawater, Turkish baths, mud baths and massage rooms. The water from the Albert I spring that could be experienced in the drinking hall was said to help with stomach issues and intestinal ailments. From all over Europe, rich and noble families found their way to Ostend. The protected monument is currently awaiting extensive renovation, but it is still possible to stay and dine there. In style!
