Temse Bridge

TOV De Wilfordkaai Temse c David Samyn

You cycle across the longest bridge in the country! The Temse Bridge is 365 metres long and connects East Flanders’ Temse with Antwerp’s Bornem. The original bridge dating from 1870 was designed by French engineer Gustave Eiffel. Yes, that Eiffel, from the famous Tower in Paris. Eiffel’s bridge didn’t survive World War II and a new one was officially opened in 1955. A parallel bridge was added in 2009, enabling two-lane traffic in both directions. The bridge opens for large inland vessels. Awesome to watch, but you need to have some patience.
