It is impossible to miss: for centuries, from miles away, the sturdy belfry tower of the Basilica of Our Lady has been pointing the way to the centre of Tongeren. In 1254, the inhabitants of Tongeren began the construction of their Gothic church. It was not completed until three hundred years later. It became a gem and, without doubt, one of the most beautiful Gothic structures in Belgium. Inside as well! The organ is monumental, the stained-glass windows magnificent, the 12th-century cloister breathtakingly beautiful. The Teseum is perhaps the richest treasury in the Low Countries with more than 130 Flemish Masterpieces. Take your time and climb the tower, which has been open to the public since 2023.
