Mechels Broek

Along the banks of the meandering Dyle, just outside Mechelen’s city ring road, wetland nature takes over. Mechels Broek is an open marsh with grasslands, ditches, pollard willows and wooded banks. A large sand pit has filled with water and is an important resting and feeding place for many water birds. Have you remembered to bring your binoculars? Follow the path to the bird hide and keep an eye out for bluethroats, sedge warblers, water rails and garganeys. Sometimes you might even spot a stork - Planckendael Zoo is not far away - and in the autumn perhaps an osprey or harrier. A perfect stop for nature lovers!
