Helsheaven c Luc Daelemans

Did you know that the name of the Galgenberg in Helshoven means ‘Gallows Hill’ in English? It’s a particularly well deserved name! Five hundred years or so ago, thieves and murderers were hanged there on an oak gallows. Macabre certainly, but the Galgenberg offers a breathtaking view over the Haspengouw landscape. The observation point itself is an extraordinary work of art: a floating chapel made with timber from ninety 50-year-old tall cherry trees. The trees had fallen victim to the Little Cherry virus. Helsh(ea)ven - that’s the name of Frits Jeuris’ landscape artwork. Heavenly beautiful!
